Track pricing across retailers using Price War

Modified on Fri, 22 Aug at 2:11 AM

The Price War Report (available only in Amazon Copilot / ESM) in CommerceIQ helps you monitor and manage SKUs caught in pricing conflicts across major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Use this report to take corrective action on pricing discrepancies that may hurt profitability, brand perception, or buy box ownership.

Track the number of impacted SKUs

At the top of the dashboard, you’ll see the number of SKUs currently under price war, along with their total revenue impact. This helps you understand the scale of the issue over time.

  • SKU Count Trend: View historical trends to see how the number of price-war SKUs has changed over the last 30 days.

  • Revenue Impact: Quickly assess which SKUs are most valuable and need urgent attention.

Retailer breakdown

See how many SKUs are in a price war by retailer (e.g., Walmart vs. Target). This helps you pinpoint which retailer is triggering Amazon’s price-matching behavior.

Review SKU-level details

In the SKUs Under Price War table, you can see key information to guide action:

  • SKU Details: Product name and image for quick identification

  • Revenue: Trailing 4 weeks ordered product sales (OPS)

  • Price War Index (PWI): A score indicating how severe the price war is for that SKU

  • Amazon Offer Price: The current price Amazon is offering

  • Retailer Offer Price: The price offered by the triggering retailer

Use this table to prioritize intervention, either by negotiating with retailers or adjusting your Amazon pricing strategy.

Understanding price war index (PWI)

Price War Index (PWI) is the relative price index between different retailers and its value varies between 0 to 1. Example if a product is priced at $10 on one retailer and at $5 on another retailer, then the Price War Index (PWI) will be 0.5. In order to view all the retailers, please set the PWI accordingly.

Analyze price trends over time

At the bottom of the report, the Price Trend chart shows how Amazon, Walmart, and Target prices have changed over time for a selected SKU. You can use this to:

  • Identify when a price war began

  • See which retailer initiated the drop

  • Track Amazon’s response and buy box behavior

Retailer limits

Price war retailer limits are set in your ESM contract. If you want to expand, reach out to your customer success director. Usually this functionality is limited to 2 or 3 retailers.
