Monitor lost buy box (LBB) and 3rd party (3P) seller activity

Modified on Fri, 22 Aug at 2:10 AM

Third-party sellers can affect your brand’s performance by winning the Buy Box, listing unauthorized products, or creating duplicate variants. Proactively monitoring 3P activity helps protect your revenue, uphold brand integrity, and improve the shopper experience. Within our sales management platform, you can monitor 3P activity and automate the removal of unwanted 3P variants.

Key actions to take:

  • Add LBB and revenue lost due to LBB to your standard reporting

  • Use the Lost Featured Offer report to identify high-impact 3P sellers

  • Use 3P variant removal automation to clean up unauthorized detail page variants

  • Review the independent 3P listing recommendation to flag unauthorized listings

  • Check Market Share for high-selling 3P-only products from your brand

Add LBB & Revenue Lost due to LBB to your standard reporting

Within reports builder, you can add a couple metrics to help you quantify your LBB opportunity size and trends.

  • Lost Buy Box (LBB) %: based on our 4x per day scrapes

  • Revenue lost due to LBB: estimated OPS lost due to LBB

  • % OPS loss due to LBB: Revenue lost due to LBB / OPS

To add the metrics to a report, simply edit a widget and search for LBB in the metric list.

Use the lost featured offer report to identify sellers that are driving the biggest revenue loss

Navigate to the CommerceIQ -> Reports -> Classic -> Standard -> Lost Featured Offer.

Within this report you can review LBB revenue by product. Additionally, you can analyze the specific sellers that are causing the most revenue loss.

Note: this report only shows the top 400 ASINs with LBB issues. For additional deeper analysis, reach out to our professional services team.

Use the 3P variant removal automation to remove unwanted 3rd party variants from your detail page

CommerceIQ -> Recommendations -> 3P Variants

CommerceIQ's 3P Variant Removal feature identifies when a third-party (3P) seller adds an unauthorized or unwanted variation (e.g., color, size, pack count) to your Amazon detail page (ASIN family). These variants often siphon traffic and revenue away from your 1P (vendor) offer.

3P variants can create multiple issues:

  • Revenue leakage: 3P variants can undercut pricing and reduce your Buy Box share

  • Brand integrity: Uncontrolled variants create inconsistent experiences or shopper confusion

  • Performance dilution: Metrics like conversion rate and reviews can be affected by non-compliant 3P offers

CommerceIQ helps solve this through both recommendations and automation:

  • Recommendation: CommerceIQ detects when a 3P variant appears on your ASIN family where you're the rightful brand owner

  • Automation: The platform automatically files a variant removal ticket in Amazon Vendor Central, requesting Amazon to unlink the 3P variant

The overall business impact includes:

  • Protecting 1P revenue by removing competing 3P variants

  • Reducing manual work through automated ticket creation and tracking

In order to setup this automation, reach out to your customer success manager, or open a ticket with our support engineers.

Review the independent 3P listing recommendation to check if unauthorized 3Ps are selling your brand

Navigate to CommerceIQ -> Recommendations -> Independent 3P Listing

Within the recommendation, you will find a list of ASINs that are offered by 3P sellers but are not included in your 1P catalog.

Often this can be a place to discover fraudulent sellers, or potential assortment gaps.

Check Market Share for high selling products from your brand

You can use the Market Share tool to identify high-selling products that have 3P sales but no 1P sales. These items may represent assortment gaps within your catalog.

Steps to identify assortment gaps:

  1. Navigate to CommerceIQ → Market Share → View SKUs.

  2. Select the category you want to analyze.

  3. Filter to "Your SKUs".

  4. Look for SKUs where:

    • 1P sales = 0

    • 3P sales > 0

These SKUs indicate products that are being sold by third-party sellers, but not by your brand. They may represent:

  • Assortment gaps

  • Multi-pack or bundle opportunities

  • Discontinued items still selling through 3P

  • Potential trademark or unauthorized seller issues
